How to Play

Place cells, connect them into clusters, outscore your opponent.

1

Place Cells

Players take turns placing cells on empty spaces. Cells connect to same-color neighbors in all 8 directions — horizontal, vertical, and both diagonals. Each cell scores based on its connection axes: 1 point if isolated, +2 per active axis, up to 8 points.

+12

Each cell's score reflects its connection axes; the number on empty spaces shows what the current player would gain by placing there. The +12 in the bottom-left means: the new cell would score 6, plus 3 neighbors each gain an axis (+2 each) = 6 + 2 + 2 + 2.

Build Connections

Green places a cell in the bottom-left corner, forming a 2×2 block. Every cell in the block now connects on 3 axes, jumping from 4 to 6 points each. Green's total leaps from 12 to 24.

Cyan's +9 in the middle-right means: the new cell would score 4, plus 3 neighbors gain axes = 4 + 2 + 2 + 1.

Scoring

  • 1 pointisolated cell (no same-color neighbors)
  • +2 per axiseach active connection axis
  • 4 axesvertical, horizontal, diagonal \, diagonal /
  • 8 points maxall 4 axes connected

An axis is "active" if the cell has at least one same-color neighbor along it. Having neighbors on both sides of an axis doesn't give extra points.

AI Difficulty

  • EasyPrefers open areas of the board. A good starting point for new players.
  • MediumTargets high-scoring moves and builds connections when possible.
  • HardExpert-level AI that considers score, centrality, and blocking.
  • EliteTournament-strength AI trained through self-play.

Mirror Rule

On a symmetric board, the second player could guarantee a draw by reflecting the first player's moves. Cell Division detects five types of mirror strategies (vertical, horizontal, both diagonals, and 180° rotation). If every second-player move mirrors the first player's, they forfeit immediately.
